Ein dunkelhäutiges Mädchen ist mit ihrer Tante vor dem Krieg in ein europäisches Land geflohen. Dort erscheint ihr alles fremd. Anfangs verkriecht sie sich oft in ihre heimatliche Decke. Doch die Begegnung mit einer gleichaltrigen Einheimischen im Park erleichtert ihr den Neubeginn. Sie wird ihre Freundin, bringt ihr die Landessprache bei und hilft ihr, sich einzuleben. Am Ende stellt das Flüchtlingskind fest: "Ich bin immer ich!". - F. Blackwood (zuletzt "Ganz die Mutter") stellt das Heimweh des Mädchens in warmen Rottönen dar, die Erfahrungen im Einwanderungsland in kühlen Blautönen. Um welche Länder es sich genau handelt, lässt sie offen. So kann die Geschichte auf die persönliche Situation des Betrachters bezogen werden. Die rote Motivdecke, in die das Mädchen sich zurückzieht, birgt viele Erinnerungen, doch webt sie mit dem Erlernen der Sprache des Einwanderungslandes eine neue, ebenso gemütliche Decke.
